If you’ve been wanting to organize your kitchen pantry but don’t know where to start then this is for you. These are the top 8 easy steps on how to organize your pantry.
1. Empty Shelves and Drawers
With any home project the first step should always be to empty out the area first and foremost. This gives you a clean slate to work with and lets you envision how you want the space to be without all the clutter in the way.
2. Get Rid of Expired Items
A lot of times we forget about our food items that get put in the back of the cabinet so they end up expiring. Organizing your pantry is the perfect time to purge all of the items that are no use for you anymore.
3. Categorize Areas
A good way to make the daily cooking process easier and allow you to find your items faster is to categorize. You can put quick breakfast items in one area, daily snacks in another, and your various dried goods somewhere else. Make sure it flows well with your lifestyle.
4. Empty Goods into Jars
If you’ve been online in the past year or two then you’ve noticed the boom in people getting rid of mismatched food packaging and using their own personal jars for food products. It’s the best way to make your pantry look more pleasing when it’s in matching jars and bins. Amazon, Hobby Lobby, and The Container Store are great places to look when shopping for jars.
5. Label the Jars
Labelling your jars is the next step so you can identify what’s in which canister. Another great reason to label your jars is to keep track of what needs a refill. It makes the shopping experience more effective when you know exactly what you want.
6. Put Snacks in Bins
Having a variety of storage containers in your pantry helps it from looking boring. The items that can’t be placed in jars, such as individually wrapped snacks, can be placed in a bin. If you need some guidance on choosing bins then some good materials for the bins can be wicker, metal, wood or rattan. If you don’t mind the products being visible then a plastic bin is also a great option.
7. Use Racks
Racks aren’t just useful for spice cabinets. They can be used to put canned goods on or smaller jars that you want to be able to see when placed in the back of the cabinet. When shopping for these, have in mind what products you want to place on them so you can buy the right size rack.
8. Monthly Pantry Check
Organizing your pantry is only one step of the process but the real challenge is keeping it that way! With a family in the house it becomes even harder to keep it clean and organized. A way to beat that is to check up on your pantry once a month at minimum. Make sure no other products have expired. Wipe it down if necessary. And make sure everything is stocked up and placed where it should be.
Good luck organizing!
