Giving your home your own personal touch doesn’t have to break the bank. These are the top 10 affordable decor hacks you need to try.
1. Thrift Stores and Garage Sales
My first tip that is an absolute game changer is to check out all your local thrift stores and garage sales! For the longest time I was absolutely against both of these options because I did not like the idea of owning something used by someone else. But, there are so many gems that you can find if you open up to the idea of it. Most items are most likely going to be one of a kind or hard to find so you’ll have something different than every other person. The biggest plus of this is that the items will be at a highly discounted rate. So my advice is to give it a chance!
2. Etsy and Digital Downloads
Another amazing way to cut down decor costs is to see what Etsy has to offer. Not only are the prices affordable but you’ll also be supporting small businesses grow. My favorite thing to get off of Etsy are digital downloads of artwork. Instead of paying insane amounts of money for art pieces you can purchase the file on Etsy and print it at your local FedEx. They also have such unique decor pieces like vases and trays.
3. Throw Pillows and Throw Blankets
Adding Throw Pillows and Blankets to your bed or couch can switch up the whole look of the furniture when you start to get bored of it. Spruce up the room by including these simple items and it can elevate and refresh any room.
4. HomeGoods
Instead of opting for West Elm, Anthropologie, or Crate and Barrel, instead, go for home decor stores like HomeGoods that have such beautiful pieces for a fraction of the price. By far HomeGoods is one of my favorite stores to get inspiration and switch up my home decor.
5. Hardware Update
Another easy way to make your home feel new is maybe something you don’t think of first but is very important. The hardware on your light switches, door handles, outlets, and so on, is a great way to subtly elevate any room in the house without having to pay too much. If you don’t want to buy completely new ones you can purchase Spray Paint or Rub n Buff in the color of your choice and give it a new coat to make it look new. Updating the hardware on your dressers, side tables, kitchen cabinets, etc. is another area that could always use a face lift.
6. Paint your Walls/Furniture
Painting your walls doesn’t have to cost a fortune so taking the time to pick out a new color and putting on a new coat of paint on your walls and even on your furniture can be a big change to a space. I usually opt for shades of white for the walls because it’s easier to decorate around and never goes out of style. You can play around with fun colors for old dressers that you’re bored of and follow the previous step above to update the hardware.
7. Add Plants
Plants are usually an affordable way to add some life into your home. If you can’t find the perfect real plant that you love then go ahead and opt for a faux option instead. Target has many options for trendy faux plants that are already put in a vase and extremely affordable. I’m currently loving olive trees and eucalyptus stems as a greenery option for the home.
8. Light Fixtures
Light fixtures are an easy way to update any space. Whether it’s a floor lamp, table lamp, or sconce that you choose to add it’s a quick hack to up level your room. You could also opt for those LED string lights to tape under your cabinets and shelves instead of spending numerous amounts of money to install lights below.
9. Add a Rug
Finding an inexpensive rug at HomeGoods or any other good find is a great hack to quickly change the look of the room. You can create the aesthetic that you like since this is a big piece in a room and can create any look that you’d like to acquire.
10. Organize your Home
If your home is cluttered then regardless of how beautiful your home decor is it will never reach its full potential. Make sure your cabinets, drawers, and rooms are tidy and that there’s a set place for everything.
