It’s that time of year again where the temperature drops and all things cozy start to m a comeback. This Fall you can make your life easier by using this ultimate guide to help you create the perfect Fall Front Porch.
1. PICK A FALL FRONT PORCH COLOR SCHEME
Firstly, this step will make your life so much easier when trying to pick out all your decor. This helps to keep your items all uniform and matching. Moreover, it helps with deciding what items you actually need to get since it could be highly overwhelming when you walk into the Fall Decor Aisle at your local home store.
Some of the different color schemes that you can go with are:
- Orange, Red, Yellow
- Pink, Purple, White
- Mint, Brown, White
- Black, Gold, White
These are some of the many color groupings you can go with but play it by ear and decide what is visually appealing to you by looking at your Fall front porch.
2. PICK A STYLE
When it comes to fall decor people immediately think traditional, farmhouse decor but that does not need to be the case. You can show off your personal taste while still being festive.
Traditional Style:
You’ll want to stick to the main color scheme you think of when you’d think of Fall.
-Orange, yellow, red, and brown
-Incorporate a wagon
-Fall signs
-Traditional wreath
-Hay Bales
Eclectic Style:
This is more of a colorful theme with oddities and more non-traditional items. This style is bold and fun so you don’t have to take it too seriously.
-Geometric pieces
-Bright colors (Pink, Blue, Purple)
-Odd knickknacks
Minimalist Style:
When you think minimalist you think less is more.
-Whites and very light oranges
-White mums in a neutral pot
-White/Off-white pumpkins
-Wreath (Magnolia Leaves or Light Purple Eucalyptus Leaves)
Modern Style:
For a more modern style go with interesting geometric shapes.
– Geometric Pots
-White and Black with some minimal pops of color (create this with pumpkins)
-Natural Materials
-White or Black Lanterns (clean lines)
Boho Style:
This is more of a brown and natural based decor style.
-Pampas Grass
-Hay Bales
-Woven Baskets
-Orange and white pumpkins
-Natural wood lanterns
Luxe Style:
When you think luxe you think glitz and glamour so you can create this effect with fall items.
-White and black striped pumpkins with gold stems
-Painted gold pumpkins
-Gold lanterns
-Dramatic florals
-Gold, white, or black pots
3. RESEARCH YOUR FAVORITE HOME DECOR SHOPS
This step is important so that you know what places have the items that you want. Check online first and then check in store to compare prices and see if one place has better items than the next. Start shopping earlier in the season if you want better options to choose from. I like to take photos of the things that I find that way it’s easier to remember what I liked and the cost.
Some of the best/most affordable places to shop:
-HomeGoods
-Hobby Lobby
-World Market
-Target
-Trader Joe’s
-Michaels
-Local Pumpkin Patch
4. MAKE A LIST OF ALL THE ITEMS YOU WANT TO PURCHASE
Therefore, this helps you not over-purchase or buy things that don’t even go with the look you’re going for. Sometimes you get distracted by all the cozy fall decor that you start panic buying items that you don’t even need. So make a list first that you can check off on your notes app or on paper.
5. SET A BUDGET FOR YOURSELF
In addition to researching places and items that you like and creating a list of all your must haves you’ll have a better idea of the budget you will need to set. This is important so that you don’t go overboard and buy items that aren’t needed and don’t go with your vibe.
6. START SHOPPING
Now you’re ready for the best part!! At this point you have a pretty good idea of what you want, how much it costs, and which places to find these things at. Go out and find all the cozy fall items that spark joy for you and keep in mind that you may want to pick items that you can see yourself using year after year!
7. PLAN OUT THE DECOR PLACEMENT
Finally, this step is to start planning out how you want the placement of all the decor to be. Do you have stairs in front of the house that you want to line with pumpkins and florals? Were you just going to focus on right in front of the doorway or extend out further? You want to vary sizes of items to make it look visually interesting. I like to recreate photos when I’m in doubt of the placement and remember to step back and get a good look at it because 99% of the time you can visually tell when something looks off.
-Get a variety of sizes and styles of pumpkins and gourds.
-Stick to similar colors for the florals so that they flow well.
-Mix florals, pumpkins, and lanterns.
-Figure out where the pots are going to go because they’ll be our starting point.
-Try to keep items in groups of 3.
